Who are we?

Mountain States is a regional smart metering solutions provider serving water and gas utilities across nine states: Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, West Texas, Oregon, Washington, and northern Idaho.

Mountain States specializes in AMR and AMI systems, water and gas metering hardware, and infrastructure support tailored to utilities in the western part of the United States.

Our focus is practical deployment, long-term reliability, and operational integration.

What’s our focus?

Mountain States focuses exclusively on utility infrastructure:

  • Smart metering (AMI/AMR)
  • Water and gas metering
  • Network planning and deployment
  • Utility infrastructure coordination
  • Integration with United Systems’ leading utility billing/CIS and process solutions

We do not operate as a general distributor or reseller.

How long have we worked with utilities?

Mountain States was founded in 1955. We now have more than 70 years of experience supporting municipal and regional utilities in the western United States.

Our team understands:

  • Rural and low-density service territories
  • Terrain-driven network challenges
  • Capital budget cycles
  • Board-level approval processes
  • Long-term infrastructure planning

We operate with an infrastructure mindset, not a short-term sales model.

In January 2026, Mountain States officially joined United Systems & Software as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

United Systems is a technology company headquartered in Kentucky that provides utility billing/CIS software, smart metering solutions, and IT services designed specifically for utilities and local governments.

Its solutions help organizations manage operations like billing, meter data integration, customer account maintenance, financial and city management, network infrastructure, and AMR/AMI meter system integration.
